This will be my last blog post for this year. I’m leaving the blogging world to focus on preparing for my move back to New Zealand.

It suddenly struck me recently that I’m not very employable back in the West. I’ve got nothing that I’m spectacular at or even very competent at that I can wow employers or potential business partners with. I’m going to use the time from now to my move in July to start upskilling myself.

Lifestyle Design In 2010 And Beyond.

by Jimi
Thumbnail image for Lifestyle Design In 2010 And Beyond.

When people think of lifestyle design, they generally think of those who have broken the traditional 9 to 5 model of earning a living and gone off to do their own thing. They think of the unconventional ways of becoming rich, while traveling the globe.

While this may be true to some degree, it’s by in large not what lifestyle design is all about in this day and age. Lifestyle design is really adopting some strategies that allow you to experience a different career path than the one you may currently be on, the end result being your ideal lifestyle.

I Think Young Therefore I Am Young – I Think.

Do you remember some of those old Star Trek episodes when Captain Kirk and his merry band of space pilgrims met up with advanced alien cultures whose members were virtually disembodied intelligence sustained by thought? It didn’t help that one of these “brain tribes” reminded me of my old maths teacher and it was an odd reaction while watching Star Trek to have some sort of psychosomatic twinge on my right palm where the sadistic little bastard used to cane me for not being able to solve quadratic equations using graphs!

Lifestyle Design Versus Personal Development.

by Guest
Thumbnail image for Lifestyle Design Versus Personal Development.

I think it’s awesome that people from lifestyle design strive to go against conventional society. I mean how brave is that? To be able to handle the pressure from family, friends, peers, and everybody else who says that it can’t be done, is someone who is a true warrior. But even a true warrior still has to master themselves, and that’s where personal development comes in.

People Will Tell You To Quit, I Say Screw Them And Do It! – TheInfoPreneur.

I read Gordie’s post Lifestyle Design Is Not Dead and his frustration at how some people keep saying to write about things of this nature is a waste of time, because it is dead. Listen guys, people told me in my first week that I would never be able to compete with the big guns in my market place and that I would never ever be able to make an impact. Did I listen? Hell no, and that’s the reason I’m writing a guest post on this fantastic site.

Why Do We Procrastinate?

by Oscar
Thumbnail image for Why Do We Procrastinate?

Procrastination is not the problem per se. People usually procrastinate on low value activities. The problem is when you procrastinate in something that you must do.
Why do we often procrastinate on something when we’ve spent all the previous evening or week planning for it? It’s usually on the important tasks without deadlines that you’ll probably find yourself procrastinating.

Fortunately, with some self discipline, you’ve been able to reduce this behavior but still, reducing a problem is not solving it, so there has to be a reason why we keep procrastinating on important stuff.

Is It Time For Parenting Permits?

by Michael
Thumbnail image for Is It Time For Parenting Permits?

So, I have to take a test to drive on the road but I can have as many kids as I want? Surely I can do a lot more damage to society raising kids badly. Really now, how long would I last on the road with those traffic cops are everywhere. However, in regards to child rearing that’s a whole different matter. I can screw that up for years. Awesomely, it probably won’t even be picked up in the schools, well it might but we’ve stripped discipline right out of schools so what the hell are they going to do to me anyway?

How To Stay Focused.

by Guest
Thumbnail image for How To Stay Focused.

Learning how to stay focused on your work is one of the fundamentals of productivity. Unfortunately, maintaining focus has become increasingly difficult in an age where a single email or phone call can force you to reassess your priorities for the day. Why is it though, that even when we close ourselves off to emails and unplug the phone, we get little done? The problem is that although we have minimized the external, physical distractions of email and phone calls, the number one enemy to productivity are our mental distractions: our doubts and our worries.

Lifestyle Design Is NOT Dead!

by Gordie
Thumbnail image for Lifestyle Design Is NOT Dead!

There have been a bunch of bloggers lately saying that lifestyle design is dead or questioning whether it’s relevant anymore. At first I thought what a load of bollocks. These kind of statements such as “Blogging is dead”, “God is dead”, “Rock is dead” come into vogue for a period of time and then die out themselves. I suspect it will be the same with the cry “Lifestyle design is dead!”

How To Smile At A Crisis With Big Shiny White Teeth.

Seeing the good when it’s all going bad.

I have a mug at home that has a grinning shark on it and the words words “He who smiles in a crisis has found someone else to blame.” Awesome. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating finding someone to blame when problems arise; I keep the mug to remind me how my attitude should be during a crisis, and also because it’s excellent for keeping hot liquids in.

Carrots, Sticks And True Motivation.

by Srinivas
Thumbnail image for Carrots, Sticks And True Motivation.

Motivation is an interesting thing, which occurs in varying levels for most people. But, why is that? It’s because the carrot is not enticing enough for you to be truly motivated.

Yesterday I was having a conversation with my boss. He’s an avid runner who runs six miles a day and does most of his thinking when he runs. For me, as you know, it’s surfing. What was interesting is that he wasn’t always a runner. I figured anybody who runs six miles everyday must ran cross country track in high school, but that wasn’t the case.

Lessons From Customer Services For Life.

by Ben
Thumbnail image for Lessons From Customer Services For Life.

When I left university, I went to work as a fitness instructor in a local gym. It was my first ever real job and it was pretty good. Everyday I’d go to work, help people meet their fitness goals and interact with a wide variety of individuals. It always amazed me how friendly people were when I was positive towards them, regardless of how bad their day may have been.

After about eighteen months, I got the chance to go and work in a big leisure center on a holiday park near to where I lived. This took me out of the gym and put me behind a counter helping holiday makers to organize and book all of the activities that they wanted to do during their stay. It was good fun to start with (most days).

Personal Development By George Clooney: How Much Does Your Life Weigh?

by Tanner
Thumbnail image for Personal Development By George Clooney: How Much Does Your Life Weigh?

“How much does your life weigh? Imagine for a second you are carrying a backpack. I want you to pack it with all the stuff you have in your life and start with the little things the shelves, the drawers, the knickknacks: then start adding larger stuff, clothes, tabletop appliances, lamps, your TV – backpack should be getting pretty heavy now – and you go bigger. Your couch, your car, your home – I want you to stuff it all into that backpack.

You’re A Bad Parent If …

by Gordie

Please read this article in its entirety and don’t skim, otherwise you’ll probably get very confused as to where I stand. This article isn’t just for parent; it’s for those who are currently non-parents, too. I’m not a parent, but I do produce sperm and therefore I should think about this issue.

Recently I came across Larry Winget’s blog. In his latest post Ten Signs You Are A Bad Parent, Larry says that you’re a bad parent if any of the following apply to you.

Do You Have A Success Mindset?

by Jimi
Thumbnail image for Do You Have A Success Mindset?

Having a success mindset is one of the most valuable innermost strengths that we can possess. It’s an extremely positive way of thinking that provides us with the willpower and the determination to make serious changes in our lives, the foundation for lifestyle design.

Lifestyle design is generally thought of as an unconventional means to a great life and most would just love to get outside of the norm and design the lifestyle they truly want, but lifestyle design is not always outside of what we know to be everyday life.

Are Butterflies, Bin Laden and Dead Plants Relevant To You?

by Kevin
Thumbnail image for Are Butterflies, Bin Laden and Dead Plants Relevant To You?

Have you ever played that game in a bar where you list the people you would most like to have at a dinner party, the sort of thing when you sit Nelson Mandela next to Adolf Hitler, George Bush with Bin Laden, that sort of thing? Lying in bed strangely enjoying one of the few bouts of insomnia which can be incredibly creative, I got to thinking about the late author of The Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy Douglas Adams to have a chat about a reoccurring theme in his books – the interconnectedness of all things.

Why Short-Term Gains Are Shorter Term Than You Think.

by Armen
Thumbnail image for Why Short-Term Gains Are Shorter Term Than You Think.

We do a lot of things for short-term gains. I am here to explain how short-term they are. They’re basically gone before you can enjoy them to any worthwhile degree. Long-term gains, however, last long enough to offer fulfillment. Enough discussion about this will influence you to take the path of larger goals that involve more commitment.

Watching TV.

Watching television is a great introductory example. Before you turn on the TV, you’re wanting to see all the goodness that’s there. There might a be a show or two you want to check out. Soon, you start rolling through channels, or sit there stuck on one channel. That small spark of enjoyment or anticipation that you had before you started is basically gone after a very short time, and then you are in a state of little thought and enjoyment.

The Success Ebook.

by Gordie

Although I’d love to harp on at you about what success is and how to achieve it, I feel there is an ebook that will do the job just as well, if not better. Jonny, who is a member of our writing team and also has his own blog The Life Thing has put together a cool little free ebook called The Success Book: What is it? How do you achieve it? Its structure is simple, two simple questions, two simple answers.
