Even as a lifestyle designer, it’s inevitable that your time will be wasted by people and circumstances beyond your control. It could be someone keeping you waiting; your flight is delayed, or you’re simply on a subway or bus on your way to work or a meeting. Rather than just sitting there bored staring into the faces of other bored people, why not use that time productively?
Learn instead of wasting time.
One of the best ways to use time that would normally be squandered is to always have an iPod or similar Mp3 listening device with you so you can listen to great audio books on entrepreneurship and lifestyle design. Even though I enjoy reading books, I think that it’s more convenient to listen to audio books when you’re not at home. Firstly, an iPod takes up less room. All you need to worry about is keeping the battery charged. Secondly, you can now put several audio books onto your Mp3 player as the storage capacity on Mp3 listening devices is constantly growing. And unlike a book, you can keep both your hands free to take notes or hold something, etc.
It’s simple, but effective. You can turn what would normally be wasted time into productive time where you learn more ways to improve your life and business by listening to great audio books on your Mp3 player. Don’t leave home without it.

What a great idea. It’s simple, and something we all should have thought of before, but… didn’t.
At least not in my case! I’m going to go searching for some audio books right now
He Gordie,
You just gave me the perfect excuse the buy a new iPod. It’s a business device. I wonder if it can be classed as a Business expense. mmm Worth looking into
Sometimes the best tips are the simplest and this hits the spot. I knew I bought that 16gb iPod for some reason!
nice. i always have my mp3 player with me – working out, grocery store, waiting in line. sure beats staring into space. i like books/mags too.
The Mp3/iPod is a great example of practical and useful technology for entrepreneurs. Someone on Twitter today told me that Ziglar used waiting time to write his books. Another great idea how to use potential wasted time.
I use my iPod all the time for this, and you can take it one step further. There are several sites you can sign up to (I use one called Audible) who offer audio books. These are either read by professionals, or the author, which is great. I recently read one of Branson’s books actually narrated by Richard! Most of them have a download manager which interfaces with iPod or Blackberry.
I agree, I like to listen to audio books and podcasts when I’m cleaning up the flat on the weekends, or commuting. Unfortunately, the noise on the tube is too loud to enable listening to an audio book on iPod but I prefer the bus anyway!
I’ve done this recently with podcasts. I spend about 3 hours a day outside walking due to my job (dog walker), and now that I listen to podcasts and audio books while I’m doing so, I’ve found that I’m able to spend a lot more time “reading” than I would have expected!
By the way, I’m working on that guest post for you. I have a plane flight today, and since the outline is done, I’ll be writing it during my flight.
Kelsey´s last blog ..SNOWPOCALYPSE NOW
Lol! I just asked you about the guest post on your other comment. I should have read this comment first. I’ll go back and edit the comment.
That’s cool you can spend about three hours listening to audio books. Great way to utilise your time when the dogs are behaving.
Looking forward to the guest post.
The other thing I do while walking is make voice notes about blog posts I want to write. There have been days where I’ve narrated entire blog posts during my walks. If only voice/text transcription were better…
That’s another great idea, Kelsey. I should actually make more use of my Mp3 recorder I bought.
