Nathan Hangen and Mike Cliffe-Jones have taken it upon themselves to write an awesome book called Beyond Blogging. I was privileged enough to receive a copy in advance to read.
Beyond Blogging taught me so much about various successful bloggers and Internet marketers. The range of niches these bloggers come from vary hugely ranging from monetization bloggers, through to wine bloggers and personal development bloggers. Some were straight probloggers with mostly written content, while others exploited the power of video such as Gary Vaynerchuk and iJustine.
All-star list of bloggers.
To write this master piece, Nathan and Mike interviewed:
Gary Vaynerchuk
Chris Brogan
Chris Garrett
David Risley
Penelope Trunk
Chris Guillebeau
There are also an additional nine case studies featuring:
Brian Clark, Shama Kabani, Darren Rowse, John Chow, iJustine, Jonathan Fields, Steve Pavlina, Michael Dunlop, and Pete Cashmore.
I found it amazing that they could pack so much content into 200 pages.
Finally, a book that’s not only motivating, but also filled with practical examples of people who were just like you and me and then went on to become online stars.
What surprised me the most is that these success stories were often very different but all having one common factor that stood out – hard work.
I learned that following the conventional advice of probloggers, is not the only way to make it online. The case study of Steve Pavilina stands out as not doing things which most other probloggers recommend doing, and yet he still could get to the top of his niche online.
This book gives hope to all of us, whether we’re bloggers, lifestyle designers, entrepreneurs, personal development fans or location independents and nomads. We can learn from this book how to move completely into the information age and make our livings online as well as creating our own online communities.
So, go and check out this amazing book and see if it’s for you. Personally, I think anyone blogging online should grab a copy of Beyond Blogging. I believe it will be the book of 2010 for bloggers.
For a limited time, they’re also offering a free workbook to come with your purchase of Beyond Blogging. So, get on over there and make your small investment for great online success today.

I liked your observation about the Steve Pavlina’s chapter in the book standing out as he appears not to do things other’s are recommending. That was one of the things I liked about the eBook, not giving the single “right” way to do things (which doesn’t exist), but give 15 unique stories and give us, the readers, the chance to take the lessons that make most sense for us. In the end, it’s the unique style, your own voice that makes you stand out – and not following the advice of “everyone else” is one way to do it

Exactly, Antti.
Steve Pavlina’s rise to the top really made am impression on me. I found all the accounts to be extremely encouraging.
Heya Gordie. It seems you switched up some of your design? It looks awesome!
Steve Pavlina’s blog is the only one I’ve been following since 2005-2006. It speaks to me, which I think is one of the reasons it does so well. Steve is authentic, real and his personality shines through his writing. He isn’t afraid of being who he really is and that is something I have taken a great deal of inspiration from and applied to my blog.
The book was excellent by the way. I just finished reading it.

Hey Henri,
I think Steve is a brave guy. He lost some fans when he went polygamous. I admire the guy for doing what believes in.
Sounds like a good read, will be checking it out. I must have found stevepavlina’s blog too late. Content aside (I haven’t read it) I can’t bear the tech/amateur look and feel so I’ve never got beyond that!
Hi Annabel,
I agree with the look of his blog being a bit amateurish. But he more than makes up for it in brilliant content. Steve’s articles are so in depth. I really encourage you to read it regularly.
Sounds like a really good read. I hope to finish my blogging book in the new year.

Looking forward to it, Rose.
I’m not one for ebooks Gordie, I find it hard to concentrate for any length of time when reading online. Besides, it’s not like I can take the PC to the loo when nature calls and it’s time for a #2. OK, I let a little secret out, oops.

I have a feeling they’ll end up turning it into a published book with the profits they get from the ebook. We’ll have to wait and see.
Thanks for a great review Gordie and I’ll definitely check out the book as I plan on getting serious with my blog in 2010.

I just checked out your blog for the first time, Lana. Glad to have come across it and will be back.
Design looking pimp Gordie, nice.
Hey Nathan,
I wanted to give the blog a makeover for 2010. Now I have to commit to not changing the design for one year.
