Why Haven’t You Achieved Your Biggest Goal Yet?

by Gordie

Huangshan

Today, were going to do something different. I’m going to give you some homework a.k.a. a brutal call to action. It’s voluntary, so don’t feel you have to do it. However, if your name is already on the list below, that means I’m confident you’ll do it because I already know that you want to accomplish great things with your life. :)

I’m going to ask you five simple questions. Please put your answers in the comment section below. In return for your time generosity, I’m going to repay you with a link to your blog from the sexiest lifestyle design and personal development blog around. This one. :)

Once I’ve seen that you’ve responded with your answers in the comments section below, I’ll link your blog’s name to your blog. If your name isn’t on the list, that’s okay. I’ll add your name and your blog’s link when you answer the questions below.

If you can’t think of what your biggest goal in life is, just think of a goal that you have. It’s Friday, so if you don’t want to answer the questions now, take your time and answer them over the weekend.

Questions about your biggest goal.

1. What is your biggest goal?
2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?
3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by?

By doing this, I hope to learn more about you, my dear readers. Perhaps you’ll learn something about yourself. It’s also cool if you can go one step further by offering one other person who answers these questions a bit of advice.

The same goes for you lurkers. Perhaps you’ve been reading this blog for a while but haven’t felt confident about participating or you never know what to write. Here’s the perfect opportunity to take that first step. You don’t need a blog to leave your answers below. :)

Don’t worry, this won’t be a regular thing, but I think it’s good for us to be challenged now and again. Have fun! :)

Good questions Gordie. I’ve highlighted 8 resolutions for 2010 in my New Year’s post. But, I guess I can highlight more (not sure if the html thingy worked, so sorry if it doesn’t).

1. What is your biggest goal?
To build the Financial Samurai brand, and monetize the site for good. All proceeds after operating expenses will be used to help a local charity here in San Francisco.
2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?
Things take time. Needed to get the site in the Top 100,000 in Alexa for at least a couple months, and get the Google Page Rank first before I could go solicit business. The “Advertisement” page is up, but I still need to create a post about my policies, and work on the page as well.
3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
Whatever it takes to get me to fully understand how to best monetize a site, and build relationships with clients.
4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
Health.
5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by?
Come Feb 16th, I WILL have created an official advertisement policy page and post. I will have at least 5 monthly paying txt link sponsors, and I will have donated away my first check for at least US$100.

Cheers, Sam

1. What is your biggest goal?
At the moment, it’s to pass my AS levels. However, in the ‘online world’ it’s to actually start making some “decent money” from my endevours. I’ll be referring to the latter in this answer.

2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?
Because I think too much. I think ‘hmm, should I go ahead with this project or that one’, and then by the time I actually get round to something I’ve talked myself out of doing it.

3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
Time and money (although, to be honest, I wouldn’t spend more than about $50 unless I knew I would get a return… I guess that’s my lack of guts talking there)

4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?
Reputation, and more than about $50 lol.

5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by?
Oooh, that’s a toughie. I suppose I’d like to be making $500 per month by the end of the year or so.

1. To create a global community of people dedicated to the idea that we are all citizens of the same planet and, therefore ought to work together to preserve peace.

2. Probably because I just realized it when I posted my Christmas Wish. My previous biggest goal was homeschooling my son (but that one is actually not as difficult as I thought it would be.)

3. I’m willing to sacrifice anything that would benefit only me (aka: the success of my personal blog, or the likelihood of achieving financial independence by just focusing on MY needs, or any fame or glory I might have garnered if I spent all my time trying to create that.)

4. I am NOT willing to sacrifice my relationship with my family. I know it is easy to become so obsessed with a dream that I could neglect my marriage, or the quality of time I spend with my son. But I won’t, “because what profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life?”

5. 2012… I just think it has a nice ring to it. :)

Oooo this looks fun :)

1. What is your biggest goal?

To head up my own Lighting or Visual Effects team in a company such as ILM, Dreamworks, or Pixar.

2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?

I’m still in college studying to gain the skills I need, and I also don’t have any work experience.

3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?

Time, money (either in a cut in pay while I’m learning, or actually spending money on training), and energy.

4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?

If at any point it was to interfere with my relationship or my family’s well-being I would stop. Also I wouldn’t sacrifice my sanity in pursuit of said goal, nor my health.

5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by?

I fully intend to be there in the next 7-10 years. Unless, of course, it’s no longer enjoyable for me in and of itself (in which case I’d have another goal).

Tony Robbins reckons you should always put your goal against what would happen if you DO NOT achieve it. Apparently the fear of loss is a stronger feeling than your will power to do something. It’s a bit of a negative way to do it but it should work says Big Tones.

3. I’m willing to sacrifice time. I’m willing to go out less. I’m willing to sacrifice television for a month or two to really push it.

4. I’m not willing to sacrifice the time I spend surfing. That does so much for me as a person that it would be stupid to give it up.

3. I’m to sacrifice time, blood sweat and tears to get to this level where the true learning of the martial arts begins.
4. I’m not will to sacrifice my family time to achieve it however as one of my guiding principles in life is that family comes first.

1. What is your biggest goal?
To quit my cubicle, write and do training full time
2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?
I am only just starting on this road, I spent a lot of time knowing that I was dissatisfied with my job and life without doing anything to change it. As a home-owner it will take a little while before my writing income will be sufficient for me to switch the cubicle for the coffee shop.
3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?

1. What is your biggest goal? Become a Professional Adventurer and have my own Adventure show on Travel or Discovery Channel

2. Why haven’t you reached it yet? I just started at it full time. (at least 10 hrs a day) I have a schedule that it should take 700 days. Once I get some income coming in I’ll be able to put more time into the plan. I also need to create a system of accountability, to sync my calendar, Things, email ect so that I take specific actions everyday and it’s easy to follow / check them off. I have about 100 tasks a day now and it’s really easy to get overwhelmed and distracted.

3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it? Money! I have no income other than freelance jobs. I’m prepared to be evicted or lose material items although that’s the super extreme version. We have really cut back and only purchase necessities.

4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it? Food/shelter/warmth for my daughters.

5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by? Summer 2011 Will you guys tune in? :)

1. To create a product that changes the world in a big way, builds a lot of wealth for myself personally, and gives me total freedom in my life.
2. I’ve made good strides in the freedom area, and financial independence, but I don’t feel like I’ve had the right idea yet that will really change the world. I’d like to get around the right people (in San Francisco, moving there soon) who I can learn from to accomplish this goal.
3. A leisurely vagabonding lifestyle :)
4. Health
5. Age 40

1. What is your biggest goal?

To get tenure for life at the Uni I work at.

2. Why haven’t you reached it yet?

I’ve only been here a couple of weeks, and haven’t really had a chance to actually do any work!

3. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?

My sanity – oh, wait, I gave that up years ago.

Realistically? Any dreams of a truly high paid job. I’d rather have long term, steady employment for the rest of my working life, than some flash in the pan job at a place that could fold any minute.

4. What aren’t you willing to sacrifice in order to reach it?

My family life, and the happiness that brings with it.

5. When do you plan to achieve your biggest goal by?

Aren’t deadlines for deadbeats?

Things like this take time, and when it happens, it’ll happen.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a date set. I should get to setting one. I’d say within the next 5 years as I see that as a decent amount of time to get where I want to be.
