How Passionate Speaking Can Be Deceiving.

by Gordie

I just read a blog post on Don Power’s blog called David Risley Disappoints. The point of the post was that Don was feeling pretty let down by David Risley’s latest Webinar.

I didn’t see David’s webinar, so I’m not going to comment on that. What I want to comment on is a remark made by Don Power in regards to David’s presentation style:

“Even a little more genuine enthusiasm like what you see from Yaro Starak or Gideon Shalwick would have gone a long way to convince me that David has not only a product you’d want to invest it but a personality as well. Now, I suppose this approach was not entirely a bad thing. It seemed to prove that David does indeed have a “no hype” style and that is usually a good thing. But for a guy who has a background in marketing and who advocates the importance of selling on emotion, one would expect a little more sizzle to get people fired up about his ideas.”

How To Meditate (For Beginners).

by Michael
Thumbnail image for How To Meditate (For Beginners).

In my previous post I looked at the benefits of meditation. By special request of Gordie, this post will be a very simple “how to” on taking your first steps on the path to learning meditation.

First, the obligatory story filled with worldly wisdom.

I recently started doing Wing Chun, a form of Kung Fu originating from Southern China. One of the most striking things for me thus far during my instruction is how little distance there is between spirituality and actions in eastern cultures. This is perfectly embodied in the eastern martial arts. This connection is completely unrelated to religion, even though many use the power of meditation to strengthen their experience of their religion. It is about being fully invested in your actions. Each action and movement exists for its own sake.

Making decisions is one of the most important things you’ll do in your life. Each decision you make will have an impact on how things turn out. 10 Ways To Fail Efficiently And Effectively Every Time.

by Jonny
Thumbnail image for 10 Ways To Fail Efficiently And Effectively Every Time.

Too many people seem to be telling you how to succeed in your personal development and lifestyle design journey, so I’ve decided to tell you how to fail effectively and efficiently every time, guaranteed. If you’re having problems failing then this will help you.

1. Aim ludicrously high.

If you’re a computer programmer wanting to start a company, make Microsoft and Apple your main competitors. Don’t worry about the fact that they’re both multi-billion dollar companies with money and manpower to burn and you’re just one guy in a shed. It’s all about belief and motivation, if you want it enough you can achieve it.

by Gordie

Zig Ziglar said that, “Motivation doesn’t last, but neither does taking a bath. That’s why we recommend it daily.”

The six things you should be doing daily.

1. Everyday upon waking you should by say out loud three things that you’re grateful for.

This immediately puts you in a positive frame of mind for the day. When parts of your day are going wrong, repeat these with a positive tone, smile on your face and a confident posture.

Ancient Teachings That Are Relevant Today.

by Kevin
Thumbnail image for Ancient Teachings That Are Relevant Today.

Until I stumbled across Gordie Rogers in the depths of cyberspace, I hadn’t really given the concept of lifestyle design any great thought. After all, lifestyle design is the domain of young turks and whippersnappers in their 20s and 30s who have their whole lives ahead of them, who want to work two days a week, spend the rest of their time traveling to exotic lands and retire by the time they are 35!

So, as such lifestyle design doesn’t seem that relevant to an old fart who has more years behind him than in front of him and for whom the concept of lifestyle design and engineering means new kneecaps, hips, etc. That was until I started catching up with posts by other bloggers.

How to Free Up Your Lifestyle Design.

by Tanner
Thumbnail image for How to Free Up Your Lifestyle Design.

Today we live in a world of information overload. You get bombarded with so much information and choices daily, that you don’t know where to begin and where to end. I’m always finding myself reading and jumping from one thing to the next, constantly multitasking at everything. This has been causing me a lot of stress lately. I’ve been looking for a solution to the problem of information overload.

After reading the Expanded & Updated Bible for Lifestyle Design (Affiliate link by the way), Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Work Week, I was reintroduced to Pareto’s Principle of 80/20. The idea is to focus on the 20% of things that produce 80% of the results. For example, ask yourself these questions:

Personal Development Through Song: “You’re The Best”.

by Gordie
Thumbnail image for Personal Development Through Song: “You’re The Best”.

It’s been several months since I’ve used a song’s lyrics to teach. The last time I did that was with The Lifestyle Design Anthem: “My Way”. Today I grabbed a song from that 80’s feel good movie, The Karate Kid.

“You’re the Best” by Joe Esposito

Try to be best
‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it.
Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it

Life is going to throw shit at you from time to time. No amount of adhering to the Law of Attraction is going to guarantee you a sweet life. It’s only when you’ve been tested by the fires of hardship do you know if you’re a “man” (i.e. a strong person).

How To Stop People From Driving You Crazy.

by Armen
Thumbnail image for How To Stop People From Driving You Crazy.

In your day-to-day activity, you might get pushed to the edge at times. Make sure this only occurs because of your own doing, and not because of the influence of someone else. It’s a shame to be in a state of depression or wacky stress because of how someone else is treating you. Regardless of how they’re treating you, for your own personal development, you have to overcome their influence.

It’s certainly okay if you make yourself crazy, based on self-imposed deadlines, added pressure, or taking risks that you haven’t before, because these are under your control, and you can always pull back when you feel that it’s too much. On the other hand, it isn’t okay when you allow someone else to do this to the point where you’re feeling helpless, because no one has more relevance in your life than you.

by Srinivas
Thumbnail image for 7 Personal Characteristics For Effective Lifestyle Design.

As I thought about it for the last few days, I realized lifestyle design requires quite a bit more than setting a goal of a certain lifestyle and setting out to achieve it. It requires being a certain type of person.

So, in no particular order here are some my thoughts on personality traits you need for effective lifestyle design.

Why Meditation Is The Rocket Fuel For Lifestyle Design And Personal Development.

by Michael
Thumbnail image for Why Meditation Is The Rocket Fuel For Lifestyle Design And Personal Development.

“Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation… tooting, howling, screeching, booming, crashing, whistling, grinding, and trilling bolster his ego. His anxiety subsides His inhuman void spreads monstrously like a gray vegetation.” -Jean Arp

If the above quotation doesn’t resonate with you, then I suspect you’re one of the lucky ones who have escaped the spiraling madness of most modern lives. For the rest of us the “monstrously gray vegetation” is what we see outside the window of our offices and passing us as we drive down the roads of our modern landscape and its noise fills our ears.

The Three “F” Words You Must Know To Succeed.

by Gordie
Thumbnail image for The Three “F” Words You Must Know To Succeed.

I want to share with you three F-words that you must learn and apply if you want to succeed.

1. Frustration.

When you’re frustrated at how your life’s going, that’s great! It means you’re ready to make a change for the better. Don’t ever think that feeling frustrated is bad. Frustration can kick start you to choose a clear direction in your life and move forward towards your goals or even just inspire you to solve a problem. Frustration is only bad when you do nothing about it.

What are you frustrated about?

Are you frustrated at being out of shape, or that your current job shows no signs of opportunity to be promoted? If you are, then you need to get frustrated, really frustrated. Let yourself get frustrated to the point where you say, “No more!”

Lifestyle Design Begins At Home.

by Jimi
Thumbnail image for Lifestyle Design Begins At Home.

As this year has just begun, many remain filled with optimism about their futures, having made a list of new goals and resolutions.

There’s something about a new year that brings refreshing thoughts of a new start and a chance to finally make things different. This is where lifestyle design begins, within you with thoughts of a better tomorrow for yourself and your family.

A realization comes over you indicating that life really doesn’t need to be as difficult as it has been, if only you were to take charge of your destiny and break free of what most have been taught to be the norm.

Old Tianjin Is Destroyed.

by Gordie
Thumbnail image for Old Tianjin Is Destroyed.

I want to introduce you to the invisible past. I was privileged enough to come to Tianjin in 2003 when hutongs (alleyway communities which cover large areas) were abundant. Now just seven years later, they’re almost all gone. Tianjin’s rapid development in seven years has changed the city from a city of alleyways to a city of high rises.

The photos below were taken one year apart with the first batch taken in 2007 and the second batch taken in 2008.

Enjoy.

How To Turn Cooking Into Lifestyle Design Cuisine.

by Kevin
Thumbnail image for How To Turn Cooking Into Lifestyle Design Cuisine.

I love food. More importantly I love cooking and there’s nothing better than on a Saturday night spending a few hours surgically attached to the kitchen accompanied by prime ingredients and a bottle of something very cold from Chile.

I’ve cooked ever since I was a young child and in the sixties, when I had hair and attitude. I was a vegetarian and there wasn’t any packaged knit your own muesli, so cooking from raw ingredients was a necessity.

Interview With Captain Australia.

by Gordie
Thumbnail image for Interview With Captain Australia.

This is an interview with a real life Australian crime-fighting superhero, Captain Australia. For the protection of himself and his family we can’t reveal his true identity.

Can you tell us a bit about your pre-superhero life and what prompted you to become a real super hero?

The real genesis came with the birth of my son, one of the defining moments in my life. My pre-hero life had a number of noteworthy events, but none that I can easily disclose without compromising my secret identity, so it’s easiest to start my story with my little boy entering the world.
